The Schools Debating Competition is the largest and most prestigious secondary school debating competition in Western Australia.
During 2025, over 200 teams will compete in 5 rounds of debating, culminating in the Schools Debating Competition Finals Series in August. The top two Novice, Junior, and Senior team of each division compete in the Grand Final for each level’s State Championship title.

SDC 2026 Registration
We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for our 2026 Schools Debating Competition.
Registrations will close on 20 February at 11:59 pm. We will not accept applications submitted after this date.
There is a cap of 8 teams per school per age division.
The Draw

Please always double-check your topic and side allocation.
The draw for SDC 2026 will be out around the last week of February 2026.
Postponements & Forfeits
To postpone or forfeit a debate please contact WADL using the below form as soon as possible.
Postponements must be lodged at least 24 hours before the scheduled debate, or else will incur a warning. Second time offenders will incur a forfeit fee of $50.
