Accessing round 4 debates by Zoom

Shenton Round 4 debates on 26 May 2026 will be hosted online instead of in person.

What you need:

  • A computer or iPad with a stable internet connection. Phones are not recommended.
  • The Zoom Workplace app on the minimum version 6.0.2 for MacOS, iPadOS, and iOS or version 1.17.5 for Windows. You may have to update your Zoom version.

Install and Setup Zoom

  1. Ensure your team has zoom installed (LINK: Installation Guide)
  2. Set your zoom display name to your division in brackets followed by your team’s name exactly as it appears on the draw. e.g. (JNR) PMOD 1, (SNR) Shenton 4, (NOV) CCGS 6

Joining your zoom meeting

On the day of your debate, your coordinator will receive a link to join a zoom meeting. You must join this meeting at least 1 hour 15 minutes before your debate’s scheduled start time.

  • Join the meeting with your camera and microphone off
  • You will receive instructions from a WADL Head Adjudicator, followed by the topic release for your round
    • Listen to these instructions incredibly carefully, especially if you have not done an online round before

Prep time

  • When your prep time starts (exactly 1 hour before your debate):
    • Stay in the main lobby
    • Keep your microphone switched off
    • Turn on your camera, so that we can make sure there are no more than 4 people prepping and you are not being assisted by technology.
  • When your prep time ends, you will receive further instructions from your head adjudicator

Switching to your debate room

When you are told, you need to switch to your breakout room to begin your debate.

  • Select ‘Breakout rooms‘ from the bottom toolbar on Zoom.
    • If the ‘Breakout rooms’ button does not appear, you might have to click ‘more’ and select ‘Breakout rooms’.
  • Locate the breakout room that corresponds with your room number on the draw website. For exmple, if your room is ‘Shenton 01’ on the draw website, your breakout room is ‘Shenton 01’
  • Press ‘Join’ to join your debate room.

If you need assistance

  1. Ask the head adjudicator in the Zoom lobby for assistance
  2. Ask the adjudicator in your room for assistance
  3. If they are not available or cannot assist, email tab@wadl.org
  4. If you had a technical issue out of your control that compromised your ability to debate well, email secretary@wadl.org or ceo@wadl.org to resolve your issue.

  1. Ensure you have a stable internet connection (try switching Wi-Fi networks or using mobile data).

2. Restart Zoom and rejoin the meeting using the original link.

3. Update Zoom to the latest version. Restart your device to clear any temporary issues.

4. Check your audio/video settings in Zoom (correct microphone, speakers, camera selected). If the meeting won’t load, try joining via the browser instead of the app (or vice versa).

5. Disable VPNs or firewalls temporarily if they may be blocking Zoom.

6. If problems persist, try another device (phone, tablet, or different computer).

7. Contact tab@wadl.org to confirm the meeting is active and the link is correct.

Find your debate’s room number in draw.wadl.org.

  • Make sure you’re looking at the right division and round
  • If your room doesn’t appear, flag your head adjudicator
